my new planters…

Monday, June 29, 2009

so i am 3/4 of the way through my planter project but i am so stoked with how they are turning out that i am going to post the current status. i still need to pick out the plants i am going to use (suggestions welcomed) and then plant them but that shouldnt take too long.

i built them a couple weeks ago and then my buddy caleb
was kind enough to paint them for me and damn did he do an awesome job. they turned out amazing and actually were pretty simple to build and didnt cost much. i cant wait till i have some nice greenery on my balcony and some well needed privacy. i will post some pics once it is complete.

stumbled across an artist named questa from tokyo. he has a background in graff and paints with really cool florescents and uses black lights for effect. check out his flikr page for more trippy paintings.

the glow wars…

Wednesday, June 24, 2009

so last week i posted about being at bonnaroo and how my friend hayden brought over 24,000 glowsticks to launch during the phish shows. well i had a 8 second crappy video of it shot sideways.

now he has posted some good videos of it. also if you are a phish fan it gives you a good amount of music from the show. check them out.

trip out west…

Monday, June 22, 2009

just got back from a long week of traveling…indy to north dakota to washington to nor cal. we lucked out with great weather the whole trip and a lot of fun along the way. even though i had to be at the track for some obligations throughout the weekend i got to stay in san fran with my buddy andrew and see old ohio roommate roger. it just so happened that mike (in town from chicago) and steve (in town from LA) were there too and it was awesome to get to hang out with everyone.

before i got to SF i spent a couple days in enumclaw wa which is a fun little logging town an hour outside of seattle. i really love the landscape up in the northwest.

this is the biggest fridge i have ever seen. this is an insane amount of beer and they told me that it would last 15 days. this wasnt even the half of it.

i had all day Friday to enjoy SF and we cruised all over the city visiting some cool sights and relaxing. we hit up “the bunkers”, the Golden Gate park rose garden, the DeYoung museum observation tower, and of course finished the day with some beers in dolores park. i finally ate one of the delicious Vietnamese sandwiches i always hear so much about and got some ice cream at bi-right. flavors: balsamic strawberry, lavender honey, and roasted banana.

Photobucket
these bunkers were built to protect the shores of california during world I and II. they used to have huge cannons mounted to them that could shoot ships 15 miles out to sea.

it was pretty windy…

we went into these weird tunnels but we didnt have a flashlight so we didnt get very far b/c everyone wussed out.

triumph hits up bonnaroo…

Monday, June 22, 2009

one of my favorite characters from the conan obrien show is definitely triumph the insult comic dog. this year triumph went to bonnaroo to make fun of smelly hippies and the musicians.

the beastie boys interview was one of the funniest things i have heard in a while. triumph to beasti boys: “could you possibly look more like 3 old jews. you look like a living pep boys logo”

street sign chair

Thursday, June 18, 2009

here is a clever little chair that someone made and attached to a street sign. you can flip it up when it is not in use. doesnt look super comfortable but that could come in handy when waiting for a bus or something.

bonnaroooooo

Monday, June 15, 2009

this past weekend i made the a very last minute decision to hit bonnaroo and man was it worth it. my buddy brooks made it happen as usual and rallied our trip together. billy also jumped on even more last minute and came with me after he spent a 12 hour overnight shift at the emergency vet. what a trooper.

the weekend went perfectly. no crazy thunderstorms like predicted. awesome shows. great friends. all around amazing time and glad that we made it work. highlights from the weekend included Beastie Boys, Girl Talk, and the late night set from MGMT.

we ran into brooks’ friend hayden who brought 24,000 glowsticks that i got to help launch during phish. its funny how the phish fans treat you like a super hero when you have that many glowsticks. i didnt take as many pictures as i should have but here are a few pics and two little videos.

phili - jersey - maryland

Wednesday, June 10, 2009

this past weekend i hit an east coast swing and visited philidelphia to visit my buddy andy, jersey for the formula drift event, and maryland for the vaughn gittin backyard bash.  all my northeast friends showed me an awesome time and their hospitality was much appreciated.  vaughn killed it on the track and got a podium finish at the formula d race in Wall NJ.

Ryan Tuerck’s car owner Gary Gardella put on super fun event called Throttle Thursday which combined two of my favorite athletes…drift racers and pro bmx riders.  DC Shoes sent out the best of the best pro bmx riders to get some rides in drift cars and then put on a demo at the local skatepark.  all of the pros were really good guys and were stoked on all of the drift cars.  Scotty Cramer, Daniel Dhers, Chad Kagy, Jeremiah Smith, Anthony Napolitan and more came out for the event.  they are no doubt the biggest names in BMX and it was great that Fuel TV came out to cover it.

to wrap up the weekend we spent sunday celebrating the vaughn and abby’s awesome house complete with huge gravel pit for baja truck jumping and rally car racing.  the place is a rediculous funland and we had a blast.

andy picked me up from the airport in his sweet freshly painted flat black minivan.  he did it all with about 40 bucks worth of spray paint.  came out sick.

more kobe x lebron

Saturday, May 30, 2009

such a good campaign by nike. hopefully it doesnt jinx the championships and lebron and kobe dont meet. not looking great for lebron right now.

**update** unfortunately lebron and the cavs didnt pull it off. i really wanted to see the lebron and kobe match up. this is a reminder to all my poor ohio friends that ohio sports especially cleveland teams will forever disappoint you.

booneoakley

Saturday, May 30, 2009

my buddy smoovebert posted a video from charlotte based agency booneagency. they have created their whole website using interactive youtube video. it is such a clever, simple idea and it turned out great. it shows that they are really “thinking outside of the box” and whatever other ad agency cliche word you want to insert here. its more proof that those huge agencies that companies pay too much money for are just lame and boring.

i have actually crossed paths with this agency a few years back through some nascar production with kk. after seeing this i want to do some more work with them. i like their style and its cool that they are holding down in charlotte nc.

watch the video below and also dig into the links. it is really funny.
